Police arrests suspect in Charsadda ‘rape attempt’ case

CHARSADDA: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police on Thursday claimed to have arrested one of the suspects who allegedly tried to rape a teenage girl in Charsadda district of the province, ARY News reported.

According to ARY News correspondent, police has nabbed one of the two men who on Wednesday “tried to rape” a girl but fled after tremors jolted the area.

The suspects also filmed the incident, but escaped after a earthquake struck the area.

SP Charsadda said that one of the suspects Azam Bashir has been arrested while police is conducting raids to arrest his accomplice named Asif.

A pistol and a mobile phone has also been recovered from the arrested suspect’s possession.

The victim had claimed before the police that two armed men barged into her house when her mother was away, and tried to rape her after tearing her clothes but escaped in fear after tremors jolted the area.

The victim had also claimed that the suspects filmed the entire incident using their cellphone camera.

Police, after registering the First Information Report (FIR) had vowed to arrest the culprits and present them before media and the victim’s family.
