Fazlur Rehman

Maulana Fazlur Rehman President of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) was born in D I khan in June of 1953. He is from a religious and political family in D.I Khan. His father, Mufti Mahmud , an Islamic scholar and politician was the chief minister of KPK between 1972 and 1973. 

Fazlur Rehman begun his political career as the secretary general of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam in 1980 at the age of 27 after the death of his father Mufti Mahmud who was the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam before his death. contesting the election from D.I.Khan seat.  He won in the elections in 1992, 2002 , 2008 while losing in 1990 and 1997.

He spearheaded several protest against the american protest, and pro-Taliban rallies in different parts of Pakistan after the war in Afghanistan in 2001. He was made the Federal minister by Nawaz Sharif in 2014.

On 27 August 2018, several opposition parties including Pakistan Muslim League (N), nominated Fazlur Rehman as a candidate in the 2018 presidential election. On 4 September 2018, he clinched 184 electoral votes behind Arif Alvi (352) and ahead of Aitzaz Ahsan (124) in the election.
