NADRA

NADRA stands for the National Database and Registration Authority. It is a government agency in Pakistan responsible for managing the country’s national identity database and issuing identity cards (NIC) to citizens. It was established in 2000 by merging the Directorate General of Registration and the National Database Organization.

NADRA’s primary function is to issue and manage computerized national identity cards (NIC) to all Pakistani citizens aged 18 and above. These cards serve as proof of identity and citizenship for various purposes, including voting, banking, and travel.

NADRA also issues passports and other travel documents, and it maintains a central database of all citizens’ information.

In addition to its core functions, NADRA provides a range of other services, including:

• Issuance of family registration certificates
• Verification of identity documents
• Provision of data for government and private sector use
• Support for law enforcement and security agencies
