PM AJK

Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir (PM AJK) is elected from the legislative assembly of Azad Jammu and Kashmir for the term of five years.

Since 1974 the parliamentary system was introduced in Azad Kashmir the chief executive of the state is the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (PM AJK).

After introducing the parliamentary system in 1974 during early years the legislative assembly consist of 40 members which has now been extended to 49 members.

The structure of the state Azad Jammu and Kashmir is the same as the democratic pattern of the state of Pakistan. Only few functions including Defense, Security, Trade, Foreign Policy and Currency are the responsibility of the of Pakistan.
