The Pakistan Super League, PSL 5 is underway as eight matches have been played until now. PSL 5 is completely taking place for the first time in Pakistan with four cities hosting 34 matches.
Karachi and Lahore have previously hosted matches whereas Multan and Rawalpindi are the new venues for PSL 5. Quetta Gladiators led by Sarfaraz Ahmed are the defending champions whereas Islamabad United have won two times.
The 21-year-old leg-spinner Shadab Khan will lead the United this year. Karachi Kings, the most followed franchise of the league has one of the strongest squad of PSL 5. Karachi Kings is led by Imad Wasim with new head coach Dean Jones.
Babar Azam, the number one ranked T20 batsman is also in the Kings’ squad. England T20 specialists Chris Jordan and Alex Hales are also an integral part of the squad.
Lahore Qalandars have again started their PSL 5 campaign with losses as they have been doing the same in previous editions too. Multan Sultans have decided to go with opener Shan Masood as their new captain whereas Darren Sammy is leading the Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL 5 for the fourth consecutive time.
Quetta Gladiators have the services of powerful overseas batsmen, Shane Watson and Jason Roy. One of the best international bowlers of World cricket, Dale Steyn is also playing PSL for the first time, representing United.
Boom Boom Shahid Afridi is representing Sultans for the second consecutive year in PSL. Qalandars once again surprised everyone by giving the leadership to Sohail Akhtar in the presence of experienced Mohammad Hafeez and Fakhar Zaman.
Peshawar Zalmi have the brightest names of PSL, Kamran Akmal, the leading run-scorer and Wahab Riaz the highest wicket-taker. On February 20th, Karachi hosted the glittering opening ceremony while the final will take place in Lahore on March 22nd.
