Shah Mahmood Qureshi Born on June 22, 1956 in a known religious family of Multan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi got his early education from Aitchison College Lahore and did his Bachelor in Arts (BA) from Forman Christian College Lahore followed by Masters in Arts (MA) from Corpus Christi College, University of Cambridge.
Qureshi claims the Sufi spiritual titles of Makdhoom and Pir; however, which is controversial in Multan’s Sufi community and many other Sufi leaders of the city including Gillani reject the claims of Qureshi’s spiritual authority. This dispute is believed to led Qureshi to join PML-N in 1985, as Gillani associated with the PPP.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi began his political career in the year 1985 when he first contested in the elections and became a member of the Punjab Provincial Assembly. He joined Pakistan Muslim League in 1986. After two years in the PML he resigned and joined the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad in 1988 and was a part of the party till 1990. During his time with the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad he was also the Minister of Planning and Development.
