Targeted killings, extortion reduced by 82% in Karachi, Rangers tell COAS

COAS visited Corps Headquarters Karachi and chaired a security meeting today. Corps Commander, DG ISI, DG MO, DG MI, DG Rangers were present. COAS was briefed in detail regarding ongoing Karachi operation including intelligence based operations.

According to the presentation given Rangers to the COAS,  targeted killings has been reduced in the city by 80 per cent, while “sporadic incidents occur mainly due to personal motives”.

Similarly, Rangers claimed that extortion collection (commonly known as Bhatta) has also been reduced by 85 per cent. It said the extortion mafias were eroding in the city.

On terrorism incidents, Rangers said occurrence of foul plays has also gone down by 69%.

While expressing his satisfaction over success and pace of operation, COAS lauded Rangers, Intelligence and other law enforcement agencies for their “achievements and sacrifices in improving security environment in Karachi”, said the ISPR statement.

COAS said that economic progress and economic activity is directly linked with peace in Karachi hence a terror free and peaceful Karachi is the ultimate aim of this operation and all efforts must be directed with a focused approach to achieve this objective.
