Two TTP men arrested in Gujranwala raid

LAHORE: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab police claimed to have taken into custody two suspected terrorists during a raid in Gujranwala on Friday night.

A spokesperson for the CTD said the arrested terror suspects, identified as AbuBakar and Imran, belonged to banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) .

Explosive material, detonators, and illicit arms have been recovered from their possession, he said.

On December 22, two terror suspects were shot dead in an encounter with CTD personnel while three others managed to flee from the site after taking an advantage of darkness.

According to CTD sources, a raid was conducted on a tip-off about terrorists taking refuge in a house in Jalalpur Pirwala area.

Sensing the arrival of CTD personnel, the suspects opened fire on the raiding team as they approached the house, where the terrorists were taking shelter.

In retaliatory firing the CTD personnel killed two suspects after heavy exchange of fire while three others managed to flee, taking an advantage of darkness.

The anti-terrorism department has identified one of the killed terrorists as Ajmal.

CTD officials also claimed to recover huge cache of arms and ammunition including explosive material, a rifle and pistol from the possession of slain terrorists.
