KARACHI: Former Pakistan’s speedster Shoaib Akhtar has seemingly turned up as a first celebrity to confirm that cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan “is getting married.”
In a tweet, Akhtar claimed that Imran Khan himself told him about his marriage plans two months ago. “But Imran didn’t tell with whom he is getting married,” he said in a tweet.
But, minutes after it was posted, Akhtar deleted his tweet for reasons better known to him. He may have realized that he has disclosed a scoop for journalists.
Here’s the screenshot of his twitter page and the red-circled tweet no more exists.
Meanwhile, Khan has categorically rejected media reports stating he has wed locked for the third time.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman said in a tweet: “I’ve not gotten married. When I do I will announce and celebrate publicly.”
Earlier, news channels were abuzz with reports claiming Khan has tied a knot with his family consent.
In a statement, PTI spokesperson Naeemul Haq said decision regarding Khan’s marriage will be taken by his family. He declared all reports about Khan’s getting married as speculative and false.
At the same time, Haq said PTI chief had expressed wish, in conversation with sisters some time ago, to get marry again. But no decision has been taken in this regard.
“Accepting defeat is not in my blood, but the only thing to regret is that I could not yet find a worthy missy,” said Khan in a recent interview to Indian newspaper.
“Marrying at the age of 60 will not be same as marrying at the age of 30,” he however admitted.
Imran and Rehma had entered a wedlock on January 8, 2015. Their Nikkah ceremony (marital contract) had taken place at Bani Gala. But the couple parted ways in November the same year.
Khan is the father of two sons from his previous marriage to British socialite Jemima Goldsmith.
