Training of ROs for 2018 General Elections commences

ISLAMABAD: The training of Returning Officers (ROs) for Islamabad and Rawalpindi for the next general elections, has started.

Three ROs for three constituencies of Islamabad, seven ROs for National Assembly constituencies of Rawalpindi and 15 ROs for Provincial Assembly constituencies are being trained.

The training session will continue for three days. During the workshop, ROs will learn to scrutinize the nomination papers of election candidates. Moreover, ROs will be informed about the polling scheme of a constituency.

According to Election Commission, for the preparation of polling results, ROs will be given information related to form 48 and form 49. Officers will also receive training to get familiarized with the Result Management System.

Meanwhile, the process of training District Returning Officers (DROs) from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan had begun from May 15 at Peshawar and Quetta, while the training of DROs of Punjab and Sindh started on May 16.

In total, 133 District Returning Officers and 849 Returning Officers are being imparted training.

According to sources, Internationally trained experts and professionals are conducting the training courses.

General Elections 2018

It is pertinent to mention here that the general election in Pakistan is expected in the end of July this year. President Mamnoon Hussain will announce the date for the election within a week after receiving a summary from the election commission in this respect, the ECP sources said.

After announcement of the election date the election body will announce the schedule for the upcoming general election.

The incumbent government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz led by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will complete its five-year tenure by the end of this month (May).

After completion of the government’s term a caretaker setup will guide the country to the general election in the end of July and transfer of power to the next government.
