Trent Boult wins Sir Richard Hadlee Medal

Pace-ace Trent Boult was named New Zealand’s cricketer of the year at the New Zealand Cricket Awards function on Wednesday and awarded the prestigious Sir Richard Hadlee Medal, the top honour in the country’s cricket set-up.

Boult, who also won the Men’s Test International Player of the Year award, got the top award for his 77 wickets across formats in the period under consideration.

Boult, the Player of the Series at the recently concluded two-match exchange against England at home for his 15 wickets, got to the 200-wicket mark in Test cricket in December 2017 when he returned match figures of 6/125 against the Windies in Hamilton. That made him the sixth New Zealander to the milestone. Boult also became the sixth fastest in the world to 100 one-day international wickets during the season.

Sophie Devine, who has been in the middle of a purple patch, especially with the bat, was named the Women’s ODI and Twenty20 Player of the Year.

Ross Taylor, meanwhile, won the award for ODI Player of the Year and also received the Redpath Cup for best first-class batsman, while Neil Wagner won the Winsor Cup for best first-class bowler for the second year in a row.

Colin Munro was expectedly named the Men’s T20 International Player of the Year.
