FAISALABAD: Three suspected terrorists were shot dead while two others managed to escape after a fierce shootout with the personnel of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Faisalabad late Saturday night.
A CTD spokesperson said the personnel acting on a tip-off carried out an operation to intercept militants affiliated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on the Faisalabad bypass within jurisdiction of the Sandal Bar police station. On seeing the personnel, they opened fire.
When the CTD personnel returned fire, three suspects were killed while two others managed to flee from the spot.
The spokesman said arms, explosive material, and detonators were recovered from the possession of the killed terrorists.
The identities of the terrorists have not been established yet.
On Nov 30, two suspected terrorists of a proscribed outfit were killed in a gun battle with Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel during a raid at Gurali village of Gujrat.
According to CTD, the raid was carried out on an intelligence tip-off about presence of militants, affiliated with a banned organization, planning a terror attack.
As the CTD personnel began to besiege the hideout, the terrorists resorted to firing at them. In subsequent exchange of fire two terror suspects were killed while three others managed to flee from the spot taking advantage of darkness, said CTD spokesperson in a statement.
Huge cache of arms and ammunition, besides explosives and hand grenades were recovered during the raid, the spokesperson added.
