UN adopts resolution for the right of self-determination for occupied regions

UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations adapted a resolution for the right of self-determination of the people living in countries that are occupied by foreign nations, ARY News reported. 

Co-sponsored by 72 other countries from all regions of the world, including China, Malaysia, Brazil, Egypt, Iran, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and South Africa, the resolution was approved by the 193-member Third Committee that deals with Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs.

“The resolution reaffirms the inalienable right of people to self-determination as a fundamental human right and an indispensable and effective guarantee for the observance and achievement of other human rights and fundamental freedoms,” a statement read.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Maleeha Lodhi said that Pakistan has always supported the right of self-determination of the Kashmiri people. She added that millions across the world are fighting against foreign occupation of their countries.

The resolution was approved by the 193-member committee which deals in social, economic and cultural matters.

Pakistan envoy further said that Pakistan fully supports the right of the self-determination of the people living in the countries which have been under the occupation of foreign nations.

She added, “Pakistan is proud to support the people’s struggle for honour and dignified life around the world.”
