US Jerusalem move to promote anarchy in region, warns Maleeha Lodhi

UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nation Dr Maleeha Lodhi on Wednesday said the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital would further fuel chaos in the Middle East.

Speaking at the United Nations (UN) Security Council in a debate on Challenges to International Peace and Security, Lodhi highlighted the human rights violation of Palestinians and Kashmiris.

She said the issues of occupied Palestine and Kashmir should be resolved in accordance with the UN Charter, adding, the people of held Kashmir and Palestine were persistently subjected to atrocities by the occupation forces.

Pointing out the proliferation of conflicts, she said it is a clear sign of the need for an urgent action. “The proposed reform of the peace and security architecture is necessary but not sufficient to make a real difference,” she noted.

Moreover, she stressed a fundamental change in the way to deal with conflicts, as she said, only this way the success can be achieved in a collective quest for sustainable and enduring peace.
