Karachi: In an ongoing drive against unapproved number plates, police on Monday stopped former Sindh Inspector General Police Ghulam Hyder Jamali and other influential personalities for fancy number plates on their vehicles.
During the drive against fake and fancy number plates, police on Monday fined and seized many vehicles of the influential personalities, including former Sindh IG Ghulam Hyder Jamali, former education minister Jam Mehtab and others.
The police also took a land cruiser with the number plate ‘Minister’ into custody from the Defence, area of Karachi. Former commissioner Karachi Ajaz Ahmad khan’s vehicle was also stopped but his driver managed to flee.

Earlier, complying with the Additional Inspector General (AIG) Traffic’s orders, the police on January 25, had intensified the on-going campaign against “fake and fancy” number plates.
Fines were imposed on many cars including a car from the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) counsel which was impounded as well.
Aired visuals showed policemen checking cars at various checkpoints throughout the city and confiscating all the fake and fancy number plates. “No other country’s number plate can be used on cars,” said a traffic policemen.
