Veracity of DRAP’s CEO degree sought

ISLAMABAD: National Health Services has decided to verify the degree of Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP)’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Sheikh Akhtar, ARY News reported on Sunday.

Sources privy to the matter relayed that a letter has been written by the ministry to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to carry out the verification of Dr Sheikh’s degree.

The academic document of the CEO DRAP mentioned that he was awarded with the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacology in year 2000.

The degree was awarded by The Open International University under the faculty of medical studies IN Colombo, Sri Lanka.

However, the university is not mentioned in the HEC’s list of international chartered varsities, sources said.

In December last year, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s federal cabinet confirmed Hussain’s appointment as DRAP CEO for a period of three years.

It may be recalled that a single bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) comprising Justice Mian Gul Hassan is hearing the case against appointment of Dr Sheikh as the CEO, DRAP.
