VIDEO: Announcer asks Modi, Sheikh Hasina to ‘step down’ in hilarious gaffe

NEW DELHI: An announcer’s gaffe amid presence of dignitaries left everyone in splits when he asked the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina Wajid to ‘step down’ instead of the right word ‘step off’.

PM Modi and Hasina were present for a joint press conference at Hyderabad House. Strangely, the official was suddenly heard saying: “May I request the two prime ministers to step down.”

Someone in the room realised the mistake and repeated it in shock. PM Modi too gestured to the official and asked, “Step down?” which led the conference room to break into laughter.

As his comments drew loud laughter from media persons and some officials, the protocol officer, after a pause, said, “I now request the two prime ministers who have not stepped down to jointly release the Hindi translation of the unfinished memoir of Bangabandhu Mujibur Rahman.”
