In a bone-chilling incident, an alleged junkie who jumped a signal, dragged an on-duty traffic policeman on his car bonnet for nearly 19 km in India’s Vashi city before he was intercepted.
The accused, identified as Aditya Bhende, 23, has been arrested and charged with an attempt to murder a Traffic Policeman named Siddheshwar Mali.
According to the Indian media reports, around 1:45 pm, when a Traffic Policeman Siddheshwar Mali, 37, was posted at the busy Blue Diamond Squad, he noticed Bhende’s vehicle shooting past a red signal, hit a car, but continued to drive.
Mali, along with his colleague, Constable Shinde jumped on their motorcycle and gave a furious chase to the motorist and finally stopped him near the AMPC Market.
As they ordered Bhende to step out of the car, he suddenly
accelerated, catching Mali off guard. To save himself, Mali jumped on the bonnet of the car, while Bhende continued to speed through traffic, covering approximately 19 kilometres, and risking the life of the constable.
Shinde immediately informed India’s Navi Mumbai Police Control Room of the situation, and a team was sent to stop Bhende’s car. The Indian police managed to apprehend him, and he was taken for a medical test where it was discovered that he had consumed marijuana.
In view of the severity of the incident, Bhende was arrested and charged with an attempt to murder, assault or criminal forces to prevent a public servant from discharging his duty, rash driving, and other sections of the narcotics act. Fortunately, Constable Mali escaped without any injuries, and the police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
