Don’t overact and overreact’: Vivek Oberoi advises Sonam Kapoor

Hours after Indian film star Sonam Kapoor and a number of other social media personalities criticised him for sharing what they termed a ‘classless and disgusting’ tweet, Vivek Oberoi came up with an “advice” for her fellow Bollywood actress.

Talking to ANI news agency, Vivek Oberoi said that he feels that “some people write such stuff on Twitter to look cool” and added that he will like to ask Sonam Kapoor as to how much she has worked on women empowerment.

“In past ten years, we have rescued at least 2200 girls from child prostitution and forced labour and have provided them free education and healthcare and some of them are today studying in US, UK and Canada. I have done all this, it is well documented, and I have been doing it since when Sonam was just working on her makeover,” said Vivek Oberoi.

The ‘PM Narendra Modi’ actor added that he has a lot of respect for Sonam and her father Anil Kapoor but would like to give an advice to Sonam.

“You (Sonam) should stop overacting in films and overreacting on social media,” said Vivek Oberoi.

Oberoi concluded by saying that he doesn’t feel the meme he shared was in any way hurting anyone’s sentiments.

He, however, deleted the meme after the criticism he received on social media.

In the now deleted tweet, Oberoi had tweeted a meme about superstar Aishwarya Rai’s personal life and comparing it with elections.

As voting ended Indian election in decades, Vivek Oberoi tweeted a meme containing three images; the first showing Aishwarya Rai with Salman Khan, the second showing her with Vivek himself and the third shows her with Abhishek and their daughter, Aaradhya. The captions for each of the three images read, ‘opinion poll’, ‘exit poll’ and ‘result’, respectively.

As journalist Nidhi Razdan criticised him by quoting his tweet, a number of other people, including Sonam Kapoor criticised him.

It is pertinent to note here that superstar Aishwarya Rai was once in relationship with equally popular Salman Khan, the she briefly dated Vivek Oberoi, before finally marrying Abhishek Bachchan with whom she has a daughter.
