The video, shared on the visual-sharing application by Now This News, showed the zebra – who escaped from the zoo in South Korea’s capital Seoul – walking in a residential area.

The rescue workers tranquilized the animal and took it back with them.

The video has more than 5,000 likes. Instagram users lambasted the zoo culture and called for the animal’s release into the wild.

A user wrote, “They should have set it free in the wild where it should have been in the first place. Poor thing. Now it’s once again trapped like a prisoner for other people’s amusement forever.💔”

A second added, “This is horrible, let the animal free man. This is why the animal leave just because they want freedom.” A third stated, “Wrong in so many ways -the abuse we bestow on animals. We are a cruel species.”

It is pertinent to mention that animals find their way to residential areas after escaping from zoos and recreational centres.
