WB approves $47.95mn to overcome malnutrition in Sindh, Balochistan

According to WB press release, the project initially focuses two provinces of Pakistan namely Sindh and Balochistan; however their plan is to enhance national coverage through coordination of support between Pakistan’s development partners.

About 52 per cent children under 5 years of age are facing challenges of malnutrition in Baluchistan while in Sindh, its about 50 per cent, stated in the press release.

The World Bank’s financial support consists of a credit from the

International Development Association (IDA) of $36.24 million to Sindh and a Grant from the Trust Fund for the Pakistan Partnership for Improved Nutrition, financed by the Department for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australian Government and administered by the World Bank, in an amount of $11.71 million to Balochistan.

The credit will be on standard IDA (WB Group’s grant and low-interest arm) terms, with a maturity of 25 years, including a grace period of 5 years.
