Women’s World T20: India thrash Bangladesh in opener

Bangladesh won the toss and chose to field first.

Being sent to bat first, the Indian side managed to score 163/5 in their 20 overs with skipper Mithali Raj leading her side from the front.

She scored 42 runs from 35 balls with five boundaries to her name.

Harmanpreet Kaur scored 40 runs from 29 balls which included three fours and two sixes.

Vellaswamy Vanith made 38 runs from 24 balls wjile Veda Krishnamurthy contributed 36 runs from 24 balls for the team.

Rumana Ahmed and Fahima Khatun grabbed two wickets for the Bangladeshi side.

In reply, the Bangladeshi side could only managed 91/5 in their 20 overs.

Nigar Sultana scored 27 runs from 25 balls while Sharmin Akhter scored 21 from 27 balls with three fours to her name.

Indian bowlers Anuja Patil and Poonam Yadav dismissed Bangladeshi batswomen each.

Harmanpreet Kaur was named the Player of the match.
