Youth behind sit-in to protest killing of Naqeebullah found dead

DI KHAN: A young man, who played an active role in the sit-in recently held to protest against Naqeebullah’s extrajudicial killing, found dead under mysterious circumstances at an under-construction house in Naqshband Town, a suburban area of Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan).

The slain youth has been identified as Aftab Mehsud.

According to police, the bullet-riddled body of Mehsud found on Saturday. The body has been handed over to the bereaved family after an autopsy, officials said.

Mehsud’s father lodged a complaint against unidentified persons at a local police station in DI Khan.

The deceased had played a proactive role in the sit-in held in Islamabad to protest against Naqeebullah’s killing in a staged encounter by Sindh police in Karachi.

Naseemullah, better known as Naqeeb Mehsud, was killed along with three other men by a police party under former Malir Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Rao Anwar in an alleged police encounter near Shah Latif Town in Karachi and were termed militants belonging to the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The officers who were part of police party went into hiding soon after an investigation launched into the killing of slain youth from South Waziristan.

Former SSP Rao Anwar along with the SHO Shah Latif Town and 13 other policemen have been named as fugitive in Naqeebullah case.

The investigators are still trying to trace the whereabouts of main accused Anwar.

Previously, the Ministry of Interior had put the name of suspended cop Rao Anwar on the Exit Control List (ECL) in compliance with the Supreme Court’s order.

In January, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) barred Anwar from fleeing the country amid ongoing court proceedings. Anwar was to board a Dubai-bound flight at the Benazir International Airport, Islamabad when he was stopped by the FIA officials.
