Zaidi slams PML-N for not initiating cases against people named in Panama case

KARACHI: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Ali Zaidi, on Tuesday asked why the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz refrained from initiating cases against people named in the Panama Papers case.

Speaking in the ARY News programme, Zaidi said “When you break the law, get convicted and sent to jail subsequently…there must be a mental pressure.”

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader said the PML-N must file cases for all mentally-disturbed prisoners. He said the ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif got disqualified during tenure of his own government.

The court sent him to jail and his bail was granted today, the government had nothing to do with all this, the PTI leader said.

“It will also be seen that how much six-week bail affects the health condition of Mian Nawaz Sharif,” he added.

He said if the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) proposed someone’s name to be inducted on the Exit Control List, the Cabinet takes a decision in this regard.

Zaidi said Nawaz Sharif must give in writing about the hospital where he wants to get treated. “The government will process his request,” he added.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court granted ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif bail for six weeks on medical grounds.

Headed by the chief justice, a three-judge of the SC took up the petition of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader challenging the Islamabad High Court’s verdict dismissing his bail application on medical grounds.
