Zardari holds party meeting over move to change opposition leader

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari on Friday has summoned an important consultative meeting of party leaders in Islamabad over change of the opposition leader.

According to informed sources, the party is likely to form a committee comprising party leaders to approach other opposition parties over the issue.

The opposition leader in the National Assembly – Khursheed Shah – has already reached the federal capital city on Friday morning.

The party leaders will also discuss other matters including the appointment of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman and prevailing political situation in the country, sources further said.

The consultative meeting will take place at Zardari House at around 3pm today.

Zardari will also hold meetings with leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami (JIT), Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q), lawmakers from Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) and Qaumi Watan Party chief Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao.

PTI, MQM-P join hands to remove Shah

PTI and, MQM-P join hands to oust Khursheed Shah.

It is worth mentioning here that a joint move by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-P (MQM-P) is under way to replace Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah with a PTI candidate.

The move has been spearheaded by Dr. Farooq Sattar led MQM-P which is said to be quite ‘annoyed’ with the PPP over non-devolution of powers, particularly in Karachi.

However, PTI had suffered a major setback when PML-Q withdrew its support for the move.
