Singer Zayn Malik and model Gigi Hadid split after the model’s boyfriend had a rift with her mother, a foreign news agency reported.

The former One Direction band member gave an official statement on his breakup.

“As you all know I am a private person and I very much want to create a safe and private space for my daughter to grow up in,” his statement read. “A place where private family matters aren’t thrown on the world stage for all to poke and pick apart. In an effort to protect that space for her I agreed to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner’s who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago.”

They were blessed with a daughter named Khai Hadid Malik last year.

The Hadid family friend said the former couple are good friends.

“They are not together right now. They are both good parents though. They co-parent. Yolanda is of course very protective of Gigi. She wants the best for her daughter and grandchild,” it was stated in the report.

The two started dating in late 2015 and became one of the most sought-after celebrity couples after they appeared together in Malik’s romantic “Pillowtalk” music video in January 2016.

They went public with their relationship by appearing together at the Met Gala in May 2016 and were photographed together on the August 2017 cover of Vogue magazine.

The supermodel went on to share an adorable photograph of her little family on her Instagram Story over the weekend as they celebrated Halloween together – it marked the first photo of the pop couple’s daughter who was born earlier in September.
