After exciting fans with the official confirmation of the third film in ‘The Princess Diaries’ franchise last year, Disney is now reportedly eyeing to rope in Hollywood sweetheart Zendaya for the main role.

With the confirmation of the threequel in the $300 million franchise being in the works, it was earlier reported that the series debutante Anne Hathaway had not been dealt for ‘The Princess Diaries 3’, despite her obvious enthusiasm and support for the film.

Speaking at a film festival as well, Hathaway spoke about the project and asked the fans to maintain patience for things to fall into place, however, she did not confirm whether she will return to the next part or not.

Her co-star Julie Andrews though didn’t show much potential in her reprising Queen Clarisse Renaldi. “I think we know that it’s probably not going to be possible,” she had said.

That being said, the recent buzz is that Hathaway’s Mia Thermopolis will be the new queen of the fictional European kingdom of Genovia with the inclusion of the new princess. As per the scoop by an industry insider, the new character is expected to be biracial and Disney is eyeing the ‘Euphoria’ star for the role.

It is yet to be known if the talks with Zendaya are done or not and whether she is considering the project.

It is pertinent to note here that ‘Scorpion’ fame Aadrita Mukerji was roped in to pen the script for the latest instalment of the coming-of-the-age flick loosely based on the original novels of Meg Cabot by the same name.

The franchise veteran Debra Martin Chase returns to the team to produce the third part of the film series.

Directed by late filmmaker, Garry Marshall, the pop culture touchstones followed the story of Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway), ‘an American teen who finds out she is a Princess of the fictional Genovia’. Julie Andrews starred in the titles as Clarisse Renaldi – the queen and Mia’s grandmother.
