GUJRANWALA: Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) workers on Friday attacked an ARY News team and damaged DSNG van while the team was busy in covering the rally of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif in Gujranwala.ARY NEWS Reported
The assailants pelted stones on the van and smashed it with batons. They also threatened and used foul language against the team.
President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) Afzal Butt, Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief Tahir-ul-Qadri and Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed condemned this incident and said attacking journalists was equivalent to attacking freedom of speech.
Afzal Butt said the PML-N were directly responsible for the deplorable incident. He said if action was not taken against those involved, they would lodge an FIR against Nawaz Sharif.
He said PFUJ had already asked the political party to refrain from any ill advancement towards media persons.
ARY News correspondent Qamar Zaman said when police was contacted in this regard but they gave no proper response.
Earlier on Thursday, ARY News anchor Adil Abbasi was harassed by the activists while he was covering the rally.
