LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar on Tuesday announced recruitments in the province while heading a meeting of the prisons reforms package, ARY NEWS reported.
During the meeting, the chief minister announced recruitment on vacant seats in the prisons across Punjab saying that the process would begin soon.
“The recruitments will be purely on merit,” he said.
The chief minister further directed to begin recruitments on vacant seats of medical officers in the hospitals inside the jails. “A separate cadre should be devised for medical officers besides also awarding them a special allowance,” he said.
Usman Buzdar directed the concerned officials to expedite the implementation on the prisons reforms package and lamented that the previous governments had not given any attention to the welfare of the prisoners.
The chief minister said that the prisoners were treated in an inhumane manner previously and the incumbent government has released Rs500 million for the provision of better food supplies to them.
“Getting better food is right of every inmate and we will ensure its provision,” he said.
In October this year, the Punjab government announced recruitment on vacant seats of BPS 1-15 in the provincial government offices in order to improve the performances of the public departments.
The announcement was made by Chief Secretary Punjab Kamran Ali Afzal who said that the recruitments would be made on merit and no injustice would be meted out to anyone.
While announcing recruitments on BPS 1 to 15, he said that filling vacant posts in the government offices would help in improving the performance of the departments.
“Transfers and postings should also be made on the basis of performance and after a proper consultation process,” he said.
