Patients suffer as medicines go out of stock at Punjab Institute of Cardiology

LAHORE: Shortage of medicines at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) has added to miseries of patients and forcing them to buy costly medicines from their own expense, ARY News reported.

The hospital administration is not providing nine essential medicines, patients complained. They said medicines to treat hypertension and cardiac problems, which are provided to patients free of cost, were not being given due to reported shortage.

The medicines ‘Spiromide and Fresomide’ which are prescribed to patients suffering from heart, kidney and liver problems have gone out of stock at the hospital.

Similarly, Atorva 20 miligram tablet which is used to minimize cholesterol level is also not available.

Propanolol, used to control rapid heartbeat and blood pressure, has also reportedly gone short. Likewise, Angised tablet of 0.25 MG which is prescribed for cardiac patients is also not available for patients at the hospital.

The Punjab government last week had declared the state of emergency in all hospital across the province. The provincial government has cancelled the leaves of officials in health sector till next order and staff on holiday have also been directed to report in his or her respective duty station.

Punjab Minister for Health Dr. Yasmeen Rashid directed all the district CEOs and hospitals’ medical superintendents to ensure provision of adequate medicines particularly life saving drugs.
