Peace Cup: Pakistan XI beat UK Media XI by 133 runs

MIRANSHAH: Owing to brilliant batting by Shahid Khan Afridi, Pakistan XI won the goodwill match against UK Media XI by 133 runs at Younus Khan Stadium here on Thursday.

Afridi hit a quick fifty. A large number of the crowd had gathered to watch their favorite stars in action, including Inzamam ul Haq, Younis Khan, Kamran Akmal, Junaid Khan, Umer Gul and Mushtaq Ahmed.

Earlier, UK Media XI won the toss and opted to field first against Pakistan XI at Younus Khan Stadium in Miranshah, the main town in the North Waziristan Agency of Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA).

The match was part of series, titled ‘Peace Cup’, jointly organized by the Pakistan Army, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Peshawar Zalmi in a bid to send a positive message across the globe in connection with the security situation in the country.

The UK Media XI squad comprised a 10-member group of journalists, lawyers, businessmen, academics aged 21 to 62, which is touring Pakistan with an aim to help the country build a positive image as a sporting nation.

Peshawar Zalmi chairman Javed Afridi took to twitter and shared scenes from the venue earlier today.

Recently, some of the world’s most prominent players toured Pakistan with World XI to play a three-match T20 series against the hosts.
