PML-N paid political price for country’s sake: Khawaja Asif

SIALKOT: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Khawaja Asif on Tuesday asserted that his party had paid the political price for the sake of the country, terming the PTI’s three-and-a-half-year tenure ‘disastrous’, ARY News reported.

Addressing a party’s workers’ convention in Sialkot, the former defence minister said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) failed to serve the people of Pakistan in its tenure.

”We have paid the political price for the sake of the country. For the past one and a half years, the country’s situation has been worsening,” Khawaja Asif stated.

Praising PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, he pointed out that during his tenure as the Punjab chief minister, he took historical initiatives to uphold the province. “These initiatives are still being remembered by the people,’’ he added.

He also expressed gratitude to the PML-N workers, saying that the PML-N workers had frequently elected the party. “We had left the traces of serving the masses, irrespective of the fact that we remained in power or opposition,” he added.

Speaking of party supremo Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan, Khawaja Asif said that the return of former prime minister to the country will be a “big event”.

“The passion of the party workers is increasing with every passing day. Nawaz Sharif is coming to the country to be the premier for the fourth time,’’ he claimed.

Speaking about the general elections, Asif said, ‘’The elections will be held in January. The process of delimitation has increased. The nation will announce its decision regarding choosing the government in January.’’

It is pertinent to mention here that former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif had announced Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan on October 21. “he will be given a splendid welcome on his arrival in Pakistan”, he added.
