KARACHI: Police on Monday took alleged hitman of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Raees Mamma into custody from Karachi airport, ARY News reported.
The International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) had arrested the notorious target killer in Malaysia in December last year and he was handed over to Karachi police on March 26.
Mamma is said to be affiliated with militant wing of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
SSP Korangi Zulfiqar Mehr said Investigation was underway from Raees Mamma. He said the accused was wanted in scores of heinous crimes including terrorism and target killing.
“Red warrants were issued against him for his involvement in dozens of murder incidents,” he said.
Earlier in Oct 2015, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) issued non-bailable arrest warrants against Raees Mamma and other absconders.
The former MQM Korangi sector-incharge was declared proclaimed offender for providing shelter to terrorists.
Mamma is a prime suspect in May 12 incident, wherein 40 people were killed in Karachi. The suspect is facing over 50 criminal cases.
He fled the country after Rangers launched ‘Karachi Operation’ in 2013.
Mamma is also said to be a close companion of Hammad Siddiqui, an accused in the 2012 Baldia Town factory fire.
He was involved in land grabbing in the metropolis.
ARY News Correspondent Nazir Shah said he was charged for Chakra Goth incident as well. A police van was targeted in this incident which left over 13 officials dead and wounded.
“In general elections of 2002, 2008 and 2013, he also got MQM’s political rivals murdered through his team of target killers,” he added.
Mamma is expected to reveal a host of names involved in Karachi bloodshed.
