FAISALABAD: Policemen had allegedly abducted a citizen and demanded Rs1 million ransom for his release from his family in Faisalabad, ARY News reported on Sunday.
A citizen was allegedly abducted by policemen in Faisalabad who had demanded Rs1 ransom from the abductee’s family. The accused cops were identified as Constable Qaiser and his colleague Zeeshan.
The abducted citizen was allegedly subjected to torture by the accused cops. After negotiations, the cops released the citizen after receiving Rs0.7 million ransom.
A case was lodged against the cops at the Saddar police station over the complaint of the abducted citizen’s wife.

Faisalabad police said that Constable Umar Daraz and his accomplice Zeeshan were taken into custody, whereas, Constable Qaiser fled with the ransom money.
Police detailed that Constable Umar Daraz and Qaiser were suspended who had been deployed at the Ghulamabad police station. A 9mm pistol and wireless set were recovered from the arrested cops.
The victim family told the media that Constable Daraz had threatened to kill the abductee over non-payment of the ransom money. The abducted citizen namely Waris was kept in a torcher cell in Chohla village near the Faisalabad airport.

Earlier in the month, a Karachi policeman had been arrested for his alleged involvement in robberies, short-term kidnapping and extortion.
The accused cop along with his fellow policeman looted a rickshaw driver during his duty hours last month.
The spokesperson to the District Police Karachi said that both cops were deputed at the Tipu Sultan police station. They used to rob citizens in the vicinity of the Saddar police station, he added.
He said that the accused policemen stopped a citizen near Saddar and kidnapped him for a short period. The citizen was released after he paid Rs30,000 extortion money to the cops.
Karachi police arrested one of the accused cops namely Babar Zaman on a technical basis. Moreover, efforts are underway to arrest the second suspected cop namely Usman.
