Prohibited funding case: FIA summons another PTI leader

PESHAWAR: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has summoned another Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shaukat Yousafzai for questioning him in prohibited funding case, ARY News reported on Monday.

PTI leader and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) minister Shaukat Yousafzai will also be quizzed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in the prohibited funding case. The intelligence agency summoned Yousafzai on Tuesday (tomorrow) at 10:00 am.

The PTI leader was issued a call-up notice by the FIA investigators after Asad Qaiser and Shah Farman.

After the verdict of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the prohibited funding case, the FIA summoned several PTI leaders in connection with the probe.

PTI leader Arshad Dad was called by the FIA on September 14 to record his statement.

Meanwhile, the party’s finance adviser Siraj Ahmed was also summoned on September 14 to address questions during the ongoing probe.

Moreover, PTI’s secretary finance Sardar Azhar Tariq, Atif Khan and Jamal Ansari were summoned on September 13 to record their statements.

FIA started investigating the PTI prohibited funding case after the verdict of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). A six-member probe team was formed by the intelligence agency.

The ECP bench in its reserved verdict said prohibited funding against PTI had been proven.

ECP, in its unanimous verdict, ruled that the party received funds from business tycoon Arif Naqvi and from 34 foreign nationals.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja, comprising Nisar Ahmed Durrani and Shah Muhammad Jatoi announced the reserved verdict.

The ECP had also stated in its verdict that former prime minister Imran Khan submitted misdeclaration in the PTI prohibited funding case. The electoral watchdog also decided to issue a show-cause notice to the PTI to explain why the commission should not seize the funds it received.
