Speaking about the challenges in the industry, Ali said, “Earlier it was my physique and weight.”
“When I used to go to auditions, I was told that ‘If you want to play a lead [role], you must lose weight’,” she added.
“There are no such barriers of colour, weight etc internationally. It is only the skills of a person that matters the most there, then why such biases are found here,” the actor expressed her dismay. “Even many people have told me that ‘you look big on screen due to your curly hair, and hence should go for straightening treatments’.”
Ali mentioned that she was disappointed by the remarks but never gave up.
She also clarified that her recent weight loss journey is a self-decision to ‘stay fit and healthy’, and not to give in to the pressure of the surroundings.
During the conversation, Ali also stated that lead roles are not important to her. “For me, the character, that is being offered to me, is what matter. The character that I’m portraying must leave a long-lasting impression on the audience,” she told the host.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Qudsia Ali is currently ruling the screen space with her stellar performance in the family play ‘Kuch Ankahi’. She shares the screen with A-list trio Sajal Aly, Bilal Abbas Khan and Sheheryar Munawar.
