Sara Inam case: Court sends Shahnawaz on four-day physical remand

ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court in Islamabad has approved a four-day physical remand of Shahnawaz Amir – the main suspect in the Sara Inam murder case, ARY News reported on Thursday.

According to details, the Islamabad Police produced Shahnawaz Amir in a district and sessions court and obtained his four-day physical remand.

During the hearing, the public prosecutor noted that the police have recovered a mobile phone from senior journalist Ayaz Amir – father of the main suspect – and sent the device for forensics.

To which, Ayaz Amir’s lawyer said the mobile phone has nothing to do with the investigation. “WhatsApp data needs to be investigated”, the public prosecutor responded.

“Have the mobile phones been sent for forensics”, the judge asked. To which, the prosecutor responded in the affirmative.

Later, the Sessions Court rejected Ayaz Amir’s request for custody of his mobile phone. The device has been sent for forensics and will be returned after completion of the investigation, the court ordered.

Shahnawaz was arrested last week for allegedly killing his Canadian national wife. The incident took place at a farmhouse located in Shahzad Town where the suspect lived along with his mother.

On September 27, District Session Court Islamabad acquitted journalist Ayaz Amir in the murder case of his daughter-in-law Sara Inam by his Shahnawaz Amir. There is no evidence about Ayaz Amir’s involvement in the murder, the judge said.

The police demanded five-day custody of Ayaz Amir to further investigate the murder. However, his lawyer argued that the police has not yet provided a legitimate reason for arresting his client.
