‘Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft’ renewed for season 2

Netflix has renewed its popular animated series “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft” for Season 2 weeks after premiering the first season.

The streaming platform premiered the eight-episode season 1 of the series on October 10 with Hollywood actor Hayley Atwell providing the voice of Lara Croft.

The animated series became an instant hit as fans and critics lauded the storyline of season one which boasts a 73% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Now, Netflix has announced renewing the series for season 2, the official logline of which reads: “When adventurer Lara Croft (Atwell) discovers a trail of stolen African Orisha masks, she joins forces with her best friend Sam (Karen Fukuhara) to retrieve the precious artifacts. Lara’s thrilling new adventure takes her around the globe as she delves deeper into the hidden secrets of Orisha history, dodges the machinations of a dangerous and enigmatic billionaire who wants the masks for herself, while discovering these relics contain dark secrets and a power that defies logic. Power that may, in fact, be divine.”

Apart from Hayley Atwell, the voice cast for season 1 includes Allen Maldonado, Earl Baylon, Richard Armitage, Zoe Boyle, Roxana Ortega, and Nolan North.

It is to be noted that the original “Tomb Raider” video game was released in 1996 and had sold over 2.5 million units by 1997.

The game was adapted into a film franchise led first by veteran Hollywood actor Angelina Jolie followed by Alicia Vikander.

Before ‘Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft’, the archaeologist did not receive a proper small-screen treatment besides 2007’s Revisioned featuring Minnie Driver voicing the role in five to seven-minute episodes.

‘Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft’ season 1 picks up the story shortly after the events of ‘Shadow of the Tomb Raider’ game, with the titular character being haunted by nightmares about the deaths of her loved ones, including Conrad Roth (Nolan North).
