Man who set wife, five kids on fire sent to police remand

MULTAN: A court on Tuesday sent the man, suspected of killing his wife and five children by setting them on fire, to four-day police remand in Multan, ARY News reported.

The suspect is alleged of trying to immolate his wife and children after locking them in a room. His wife had died from severe burn injuries.

Kachcha Khu police station has lodged a case under terrorism and other acts. The culprit was arrested by police last night.

On April 8, the police had produced the accused, allegedly involved in killing of his wife and two children in an arson incident, before a judge in City Court.

The court had granted three days’ remand of the accused to police.

The counsel of the complainant had said that the incident should be heard in an anti-terrorism court. “Three people have been burnt alive in the incident, which has infuriated people of the area,” the counsel said.

The defence counsel had argued that victims were living at the mother’s family home and called for including the people of the house in the investigation.

The defence lawyer had said there was no evidence against his client and pleaded the court to send him to jail.

The judge had asked the investigation officer about the defence side’s plea.

“The accused arrived in Pakistan and stayed at a guest house,” investigation officer had said. He purchased a new sim, which has been recovered, the IO had said.
