KARACHI: Prolonged power outage at Dhabeji Pumping Station (Gharo) has deprived Karachi of 50 million gallons of water, thus worsening water crisis in the city, ARY News reported on Thursday.
The capital city of Sindh is currently suffering the water shortage of over 300 million gallons of water. Amid the ongoing crisis, the tankers mafia operating in Karachi is making the most of this situation, by charging higher rates from the citizens.
The generators installed at Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) pumping stations have also stopped working, adding to the sufferings of citizens.
Earlier, the water in Hub dam lake, one of the two sources of water supply to Karachi, had dropped to dead level due to scarce or no rainfall in the command area of the river.
The water board authorities have yet to announce alternate water supply arrangements for the city.
The board had earlier announced a system of supply rotation to overcome the water crisis but the authorities concerned are yet to made announcement of the steps to overcome the water shortage.
It may be noted here that no strong action is launched by the city administration against illegal hydrant mafia.
