The project costs around Rs 16 billion. Before, his arrival, a helipad was constructed at Annu Bhai Park in Nazimabad where the prime minister landed.
Addressing the ceremony, PM Nawaz Sharif said that the green line bus project was important for addressing Karachi’s transportation problems.
“The green line bus will be more beautiful than the metrobus project”, the Premier said.
“From this point on, we will talk only about development projects in Karachi,” hoped the PM.
He said that the green line bus project will be completed by next year. He added that the government managed to save money on the project as well.
Mr. Sharif added that the work on Lyari Expressway will commence from March this year whereas the work on K-4 project will also begin soon.
The PM said that Karachi to Lahore Motorway is also being constructed whereas Karachi to Peshawar Motorway will be made as well.
“Crime rate in Karachi has significantly declined”, PM Sharif said.
“Targeted killing should now end in Karachi and the operation will be taken to its logical end”, he said.
“We want crime to end in Karachi forever”, the PM said. He added that targeted operations in Karachi will resume till the city once again becomes the city of lights.
In his speech, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah said it was an important project inaugurated by the prime minister.
He said Karachi was facing huge crisis of water and electricity, hence a project to address these crises have also been initiated with the help of federal government.
Governor Sindh Ishratul Ibad also spoke on the occasion.
The PM also chaired a meeting on law and order situation of the city.
Hours before the arrival of the PM, the local civic administration began the repair work of dilapidated roads in the vicinity.
The Green Line Bus Rapid Transit System is considered to be a significant milestone in upgrading and decongesting the overburdened transport infrastructure of Karachi.
The project starts from Surjani Town and ends at Municipal Park, M.A Jinnah Road Karachi.
Under the project, a fully autonomous company, Karachi Infrastructure Development Company Limited (KIDCL) has been incorporated under a Board of Directors to take all decisions independently for planning and implementation of the Project.
The Corridor, after completion will benefit nearly 300,000 passengers per day.
The entire funding for the project has been provided by the Federal Government. The Project is estimated to be completed in about one year time.
