KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar warned the katcha area bandits to surrender or the government will take swift action against them, ARY News reported.

Lanjar said that the bandits challenged the writ of the state by continuously engaging in the abduction of citizens for ransom.

The provincial minister said that the inspector general of Sindh police was currently in Sindh’s Ghotki. Lanjar announced that he will also visit the region after Eidul Fitr.

Ziaul Hassan Lanjar said that the provincial government was introducing a policy for homeless farmers.

The policy will include creating employment for the youth, construction of permanent police stations and check posts along with roads for the rapid movement of police and paramilitary forces, he added.

Amid demands of giving rangers policing power in Sindh, he said that the paramilitary force is given additional powers in war-times, ARY News reported.

Extending condolences over the killing of Karachi citizens in robberies, he said that the metropolitan was faced with street crimes. The Sindh police with the support of rangers will control the law and order situation in the city, he added.

Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar claimed that the police’s performance has improved in recent days as they have apprehended several street criminals in raids.

A day earlier, IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon asserted to get rid of bandits from katcha area with full support from the government.

Talking to media in Kandhkot he said the conditions seemed to be improving in katcha area including in Kashmore. “Hopefully we will get rid of bandits soon.

He said police and rangers have been active in the katcha area to maintain law and order.

Meanwhile, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) demanded that Karachi should be handed over to the Pakistan Army for three months amid ‘deteriorating’ law and order situation in the metropolitan.

In a statement issued here, Senior Deputy Convener Syed Mustafa Kamal said that the Sindh government is not doing enough to ensure the safety of its citizens.

“The police have failed to protect lives and properties of the people. The surge in street crimes claimed 60 lives in the past three months,” the MQM-P leader added.
