ISLAMABAD: An alliance of religious parties, minus Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP)- is on the cards comprising of multiple political parties, mainly from the Sunni school of thought, to contest the next general elections from a joint platform, ARY NEWS reported.
The sources privy to the development said that the new alliance will comprise of political groups considered moderate.
“Sahibzada Abul Khair Zubair, Hamid Raza and Sarwat Ejaz Qadri are mobilizing all Sunni groups considered moderate,” they said adding that Aijaz Hashmi, Mahfooz Mashhadi, Masoom Naqvi would likely become part of the alliance.
They further said that multiple custodians of the shrines are also playing their part in teaming up with the alliance.
“Nizam e Mustafa Party, Sunni Ittehad Council, and Sunni Tehreek will be a part of the alliance,” they said adding that it has been however decided that no faction of the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) will be part of the alliance.
Jalil Ahmed Sharaqpuri, shrines of Sial Shareef, Taunsa Sharif, and others are also part of the campaign to unite moderate Sunni groups at a single platform for the next general elections.

On November 18, Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Saad Rizvi has been released from jail following an agreement with the government, paving way for the party to actively engage in political activities.
The interior ministry had previously decided to withdraw over 40 cases against Tehreek e Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) leader Saad Rizvi and others in going forward with the agreement the government hammered out with the party.
