ECNEC approves development projects worth Rs. 62 billion

ISLAMABAD: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved several projects worth Rs. 62 billion on Friday, ARY News reported.

Federal Finance Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired the Committee meeting in Islamabad in which different projects of social sector developments were approved.

The approved projects include establishment and operation of basic education community schools in the country project with a rationalized cost of Rs. 428 million.

A Rs. 3.86 billion project for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of 277 flood-damaged school buildings in ten districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The ECNEC also approved eight projects of the Ministry of Water and Power for augmentation and extension of 132/11KV Transformers/Power Distribution Enhancement Investment Programme Tranche-4 for distribution companies. Under the projects IESCO will get Rs. 2.061 billion), FESCO Rs.1.833 billion, HESCO Rs. 1.291 billion, GEPCO Rs. 1.008 billion, MEPCO Rs. 3.678 billion, LESCO Rs. 4.808 billion, QESCO Rs. 1.183 billion and PESCO Rs. 2.749 billion.

During the meeting the committee approved the project "Construction of Low Cost Housing Units for Earthquake Affectees of District Awaran, & District Kech, Balochistan" with a modified cost of Rs. 4 billion.

Among others, the ECNEC also approved Sindh Water Sector Improvement Project (Phase-I) with a cost of Rs. 30.353 billion which includes World Bank (IDA credit) of Rs. 28.840 billion.
