14 killed as passenger bus collides with van in Balochistan’s Mastung

QUETTA: At least 14 people were killed and 27 others injured when a passenger bus collided with a van on Sibi interlinked road in the Dasht area of Balochistan’s Mastung district, ARY News reported.

Soon after the incident, authorities reached the accident spot and initiated rescue and relief operation.

All the injured and bodies were shifted to the Civil Hospital, Quetta.

According to rescue sources, women and children were among the injured. However, no details with regard to identification of the passengers could be ascertained immediately.

As many as 27 injured including women and children and 11 bodies were brought to Quetta Civil Hospital, the hospital spokesman confirmed. Three passengers in precarious condition were later succumbed to their injuries during treatment, the hospital sources said.

The local government has yet to comment on the death toll and details of the accident.

A rise in number of road accidents has been witnessed in Balochistan province mainly due to poor infrastructure of road networks, dim or no street lights, violation of traffic rules, besides rash and underage driving.

Earlier on April 07, at least eight people died and about two dozen others injured when a passenger coach fell into a deep gorge in Quetta.

A Quetta bound passenger coach coming from Karachi skidded off the road due to over-speed and plunged into a ravine near Lak Pass in Mastung, claiming lives of eight passengers.
