KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the first phase of M-9 Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway on Friday (today), ARY News reported.
Governor Sindh Mohammad Zubair and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah received the prime minister on his arrival.
PM Sharif, addressing the inauguration ceremony, stated that Pakistan was on the brink of bankruptcy three years ago. He also said that the nation is seeing a new Pakistan being born.
“The whole world is seeing a new Pakistan,” the prime minister said.
The prime minister said that there is no shortage of people who misguiding the youth of the country in the name of religion and politics for their selfish interests. “We can save our future generations from such elements,” he added.
He said that Pakistan started its path to development three years ago. He stated that all the promises, which Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) made, will be fulfilled by year 2018.
The premier also said that Turkey and Malaysia are the two models of development in the modern Muslim world. He said, “Pakistan is the third development model in Muslim countries.”
“We are working tirelessly to strengthen the country’s economy,” he said.
He added that investors have started to come to Pakistan whereas stock exchange has broken all previous records.
The prime minister also said that motorways, trauma centres and schools are being made in the country.
“Some people ask what is the need of constructing the roads,” PM said. Traders and farmers need these roads to access the markets, he added.
He said, “We need to connect with the people in order to understand the importance of these roads.”
He said the government is working on the construction of solar and wind power plants whereas coal-based power plants being built as well.
Sharif said that the government has purchased the land for Bhasha Dam, which will fulfill the water needs of farmers in the country.
Criticizing opposition parties, PM Sharif said that they will keep staging sit-ins while the government will continue to serve the country. “We have no time for sit-in protests,” he said.
“The nation is aware who stages sit-ins and who is working for the country,” he added.
According to Radio Pakistan, the six-lane motorway, M-9, also provides access to various areas, including Kirthar National Park, Jhimpir, Kinjhar Lake and Thano Ahmed Khan.
The M-9 motorway has four interchanges, including Dadabhoy, Industrial Valley, Nooriabad and Thano Bhola Khan Interchanges.
The construction of the M-9 began on 17 September, 2015 and will be completed by March,2018 at a cost of Rs. 36 billion, reports said.
After the inauguration, the prime minister visited the home of former Sindh Governor Late Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui to express condolence with his son Afnan Siddiqui.
