WASHINGTON: United States has expressed concern over the human rights violations against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, ARY News reported on Saturday.

Deputy Spokesman of US State Department Mark Toner, in a press briefing, said that United States is concerned over the human rights violations against Rohingya minority in the country.

The spokesman asked Myanmar government to give access to human rights groups and the media to the affected areas of the country.

Myanmar, being governed by the party of Nobel laureate and democracy icon Aung Sang Suu Kyi, is being accused of ethnic cleansing of Rohingya Muslims as horrifying stories of gang rape, torture and murder emerge from the thousands who fled to Bangladesh.

United Nations has stated that up to 30,000 people of the impoverished ethnic group have abandoned their homes in Myanmar to escape the unfolding violence after troops poured into the narrow strip where they live earlier this month.

State Department spokesman also voiced concern over the bombing carried out by Saudi led coalition targeting civilian population in Yemen.

US official said that US is selling 48 Chinhook helicopters to Saudi Arabia announcing the arms deal with Saudi government worth $3.5 billion.
