Indian troops martyr six more youth in held Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Six more youth were killed in deadly clashes with Indian troops in Badigam area of Shopian district in held Kashmir on Sunday, bringing the death toll to 10 during the past 24 hours.

The youth were killed when the troops opened fire on the protesters during a cordon and search in the district.

The killings led to intense clashes between the troops and the protesters in the area. The troops used brute force and fired bullets, pellets and teargas shells. As a result, many protesters were injured at Badigam in Shopian.

An Indian policeman and an army officer were reportedly injured in the firing in the same area.

A complete shutdown is being observed in occupied Kashmir against the killing of three youth in Chattabal area of Srinagar on Saturday.

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik had given a call for the strike, according to Kashmir Media Service.

The Indian troops killed three youth during a violent cordon and search operation in Chattabal area of Srinagar a day earlier. Another youth identified as Aadil Ahmed was killed when a vehicle of Indian forces deliberately hit him at Noorbagh in Srinagar.

The authorities have imposed restrictions in various areas of Srinagar including Maharaj Gunj, Safa Kadal, Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari and Kralkhud to prevent anti-India protests with internet services suspended in Srinagar and other parts of the territory.
