Opposition party workers booked for raising slogans against state institutions

ISLAMABAD: Police on Thursday registered terrorism case against a number of opposition party workers for allegedly raising slogans against some state institutions during the anti-rigging protest outside Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Islamabad office, ARY News reported.

Members of opposition parties including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) and Awami National Party (ANP) protested and raised slogans against the alleged rigging in the July 25 general elections on Wednesday.

Today, the police registered a case of terrorism, insult to judiciary, rioting, and unlawful assembly the complaint of an assistant commissioner. Those allegedly raising derogatory slogans were identified as Muhammad Imtiaz Raja and Shehzada Kausar Gilani.

Police say several others are yet to be identified.

It is pertinent to note here that opposition parties during a number of meetings after the polls had decided that they will not boycott parliament but will take all legal and constitutional measures to protest against “organized rigging” in July 25 elections.

Almost all other parties including major political forces such as PPP and PML-N have been crying foul since Imran Khan-led PTI emerged as the biggest party in the parliament after July 25 elections by winning more than 110 seats out of 270 upon which polls were held.

The party now claims that it has enough MNAs and MPAs to form government both in center and Punjab. The party already has enough MPAs to form government in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
