Field Hockey World Cup: Germany, New Zealand, Netherlands win on Day two  

THE HAGUE: Germany, New Zealand and Netherlands won their respective Pool B matches on day two of the Men’s Field Hockey World Cup at Netherlands’ capital The Hague on Sunday, ARY News reports.

In the first match, Germany made a winning start to their Hockey World Cup campaign as they outclassed South Africa 4-0. Christopher Zeller scored the first goal by a penalty stroke in the 27th minute whereas Thillo Strakowski scored the second in 35th minute.

Mats Grambusch took the scoreline to 3-0 for the German side in the 56th minute and Oliver Korn made it 4-0 in the 59th minute.

The South African side only managed to get one shot on goal in the entire match.

Hosts Netherlands defeated Argentina 3-1 yesterday.

Dutch player Valentin Verga put his side in front in the 26th minute but Argentine Gonzalo Pelllat equalized the scoreline. Mick van der Weerden (40″) and Rogler Hofman (50″) scored a goal each to win the game for the hosts.

New Zealand edged past South Korea 2-1 in their nail-biting Pool B match.

Steve Edwards of New Zealand scored the first goal of the match in the very first minute but Seongkyu Kim scored the equalizer in the 64th minute.

Phil Burrows scored the winning goal for the New Zealanders in the last minute of the game.

Women’s Hockey World Cup:

England suffered an upset as they were beaten 2-1 by United States in their Hockey World Cup match.

American Palge Selenski put the US ahead in the 3rd Minute and Kelsey Kolojejchick doubled the lead for her side in the 15th minute. Kate Richardon-Walsh scored the only goal for the English in the 56th minute.

Germany were held to a 1-1 draw against China.

Hannah Kruger put the Germans ahead in the 60th minute but Yang Peng of China scored the equalizer in the very next minute.

Argentina routed South Africa 4-1 in their match yesterday.

Silvina D’Elia scored two goals in the first half to give the Argentine side a 2-0 lead. Noel Barrioneuvo scored the third but Tarryn Bright made it 3-1 for the South African side in the 60th minute.

Delfina Merino scored the fourth for the Argentinian side in the 60th minute.
